Fear No Mess!

method #FearNoMess!

I’m just gonna put this out there: I don’t like messes. I can moderately tolerate untidy messes (ie: clothes on the floor and pens scattered on a desk) but I can’t stand messy messes. You know what I’m talking about: food messes, animal messes, outdoor messes, etc. Even as a kid I remember doing everything I could to avoid getting my hands dirty.

Things haven’t changed EXCEPT I will tolerate a mess for the sake of a photograph—anything for the sake of the shot, amirite? And things DO get messy when creatives create! Thankfully, method‘s new campaign is #FearNoMess. What does fear no mess mean? Get lost doing what you love and worry about the mess later. I like it!

Unsure of how to fear no mess? Here are a few of my suggestions:

1. Eat your weight in strawberries while wearing your favorite white blouse. (Pictured above.)

2. Spend the day at the beach and bring home some (sandy) souvenirs.

3. Unleash your inner Picasso and see which ends up with the most paint: the canvas or your clothes.

4. Garden INDOORS with NO gloves OR shoes—rolled sleeves unnecessary too.

5. See how many different birds you can spot in your own backyard in one afternoon.

6. Try out a new smoothie recipe. May I suggest something with chocolate?

My favorite thing in the WORLD is coming up with concepts and watching them materialize into visual stories, no matter how crazy or messy or complicated they get. Someone once told me equipment is merely the means to creation. The point: don’t let the fear of breaking things or getting messy stand in the way of creating something amazing! Do you think Michelangelo worried about paint dripping on himself while he painted the Sistine Chapel? Let’s face it: getting messy is when the magic happens. In this particular photo shoot, my clothes got dirty, but method 4x laundry detergent made cleanup a little bit easier.

Let’s be bold, create, and fear no mess!
