Bedroom Makeover!

Bedroom Makeover

One of my favorite Instagram accounts to follow is Noihsaf Bazaar. Noihsaf Bazaar is a series of Instagram resell “shops” dedicated to independent and emerging designers. You can really find some good deals there. I usually give the bazaar a peruse at least once a day. A few weeks ago, I found a Floyd bed frame on @noihsaf_home. Before I proceed with my story, let me back up a bit and tell you a bit of my history with Floyd, specifically their platform bed. About 3 years ago, I was giving Pinterest the obligatory quick morning gander — probably over a cup of tea — when I came across this picture and became whatever is equivalent to being weak in the knees if you’re already sitting down:

The glass room! The bed! The styling! The woods outside! What was this company Floyd that made this bed I’ve never heard of??? Ever since then, I’ve wanted a Floyd platform bed. Since I just moved to Oakland a few months ago and am only in my lease for a year, I told myself I wouldn’t buy anything until I settled into a more permanent situation, but we all can guess how this story ends (it doesn’t take much guesswork if you looked at the hero image of this post).

Back to noihsaf_home. The bed frame was only 8 months old and was available for Bay Area pickup only which cut out a lot of potential buyers. When I saw it, it was posted a mere 3 hours ago yet I think by then, there were already 6 comments on it. I was backup buyer… 6 or 7? So I thought “Wow, Micaela, you really missed out on this one.” But everyone ahead of me in line apparently backed out or just didn’t respond and I GOT THE BED FRAME!

I almost backed out of the deal because I spent more money than I had anticipated paying my team to make my Moment Invitation Film Festival submission and wanted to give my bank account a rest, but I also didn’t want to be that person who says they’re going to come by at a certain time to buy something, then flakes out. Last week, my mom and I headed down to Palo Alto to pick up the Floyd dreamboat and as I write this very blog post, I sit on my minimal platform beauty.

BUT THE STORY GETS BETTER. Claire, the seller, happens to be an analog photographer. If you’ve followed me for more than 3 years, you know I used to do fashion photography with a focus on analog. One of my favorite photographers is Sally Mann. Claire is very influenced by Sally Mann. Another one of my favorite photographers is Vivian Maier and Claire’s work also reminds me of Vivian Maier. After our meeting, we fully geeked out in Instagram DMs about photographers we admire and I just know that our paths were meant to have crossed. We already have plans to do some sort of collaboration after Claire settles into her new place in San Francisco. One of the greatest things in life are connections and the unexpected, magical ways you make them. Thank you, Claire, for helping give my bed a facelift, and thank you, Noihsaf, for connecting us!
